Residents of Springdale can enjoy all the outdoor recreation that Northwest Arkansas is known for, but there are also many opportunities to delve into the area’s past for history buffs. Springdale originated in the 1850s as a small farming community named Shiloh. Today, the Shiloh Museum offers Ozark history and buildings dating back to the 1850s, as well as interpretive programs and historical exhibits about the region. The Butterfield Overland trail is part of the Arkansas Heritage Trails System, a statewide system of historic trails promoting cultural and heritage tourism. A major hub for the regional trail system and passenger rail in Northwest Arkansas, it also provides residents with opportunities for great shopping at unique local stores, distinctive boutiques, and specialty shops.

The Downtown Springdale Alliance hosts many community events throughout the year. A few of these events include the Downtown Springdale Farmers Market, free yoga in Shiloh Square, and community dinners that take over the street. The Arts Center of the Ozarks in Downtown Springdale presents wonderful community theater productions, musical concerts, visual arts exhibitions, and classes for all ages.
